Elementals
Elementals are magical beings that come from the inner spheres, or elements, of which the True World (or the Interface) is composed. In fact they have no real shape; rather they have a size corresponding to their strength, or a very simple form (a golem, a vortex, a lashing flame).
The mind of elementals
In no way can they be understood as rational beings, since they cannot be compared with humans, even though they have a certain primitive intelligence. Their reason, desires and plans come from the element from which they arose. So they have no morals, fear or pangs of conscience. If they get into our world and are not under anyone's control, they often behave like a natural disaster. They bear outside control badly and try to break free of it and return to their own world. The stronger the elemental, the worse it bears foreign domination.
Growth and shrinking of an elemental
If an elemental consumes enough magical power (for example in the form of alchemical ingredients), it can re-form into a higher form (i.e. an elemental with a higher danger level) or simply grow stronger. The same applies in reverse: for example, if it does not have sufficient contact with its sphere (an earth elemental suspended in the air), it loses its strength (sometimes its level drops by as much as 1 per round, at other times the decrease may be, say, 1 per hour).
Vulnerability
Every elemental is doubly vulnerable to the opposing element (another elemental or a spell):
- fire by water
- water by air
- air by earth
- earth by fire
All elementals are immune to spells and influences from their own sphere.
