The banshee is a terrifying incorporeal undead that arises from the soul of a woman whose death was accompanied by deep grief, betrayal or unfulfilled love. Unlike a rusalka or wraiths, she is not driven by a desire for revenge, but by boundless pain that did not let her pass into the realm of the dead.
She appears as a translucent figure in a tattered dress or a misty veil. Wherever she appears, the air grows cold, sounds fall silent and the living are seized by an inexplicable sadness and a dread of approaching doom.
A banshee usually does not attack directly. She wanders the land, or she is bound to a particular family, place or person. Her appearance is a sign of approaching death: she instinctively appears where someone is soon to die or where a tragedy is brewing, often shortly before the death of the one to whom the curse binds her.
Combat
Wail of Death: the banshee's most feared weapon is her wail. The grief and despair in it can paralyze the living with terror, drain their life force and even kill weaker individuals. This voice cannot be fully drowned out or silenced by magic. Some legends claim that the wail is not an attack but a warning that no one can escape anymore.
Bond: destroying her form only drives the banshee back into the Interface. She is truly freed only when her grief is reconciled or the bond that holds her in the world of the living is broken.
