The cave bear is one of the most terrible beasts in the world. It has dark brown to black fur, a huge maw and claws as if made of steel. Standing on its hind legs it is over four meters tall, and it weighs over three tons.

Luckily for other creatures, it is only rarely found. It dislikes light, dwells in deep caves and goes hunting only on moonless nights. It catches anything that does not outrun it and is big enough to fill it up; a very small character it may leave alone. In its jaws it easily carries a cow and can still defend itself with its paws.

Cave bears are so grumpy that they cannot even stand each other. Males and females often fight over territory, so they have a hard time finding a mate.

Combat

In battle the bear rears up on its hind legs and attacks with its paws and jaws. It need not use much tactics, because a single blow kills practically anything up to the size of a cow. It is not easily frightened; it takes flight only from a much larger opponent or when it is mortally wounded.
