Dragons are an ancient race of wise reptiles of enormous size: an adult dragon measures about five meters in height and twelve in length and weighs several tons. Unlike their animal relatives, they are superhumanly intelligent and most of them command powerful magic. They are excellent fliers and can see even in the dark.
By environment we distinguish white dragons (ice plains, ice breath), yellow (desert, hot breath), blue (oceans, hot steam), green (forests, poison breath), red (mountains, fire breath) and black (swamps, acid).
The life of dragons
The young hatches from an egg that the female anxiously guards. After about a hundred years the mother leaves the young dragon, and it finds a territory of its own, over which it often contends with other dragons. Dragons do not die of old age and grow stronger with age: a dragon older than a thousand years is immensely experienced, powerful and often grumpy. In character they are as varied as humans, but a solitary life leaves its mark on them. The superstition about hoarding treasure is mostly mistaken.
Combat
A dragon's main weapon is its wisdom: it does not enter a fight it could lose, it kills opponents starting with the weakest, and when seriously wounded it flies away. The party would do better to come to terms or disappear. A dragon attacks with its jaws and claws, independently with its tail (which covers its back and flank), and it can trample smaller opponents.
Breath: every dragon spews a deadly breath according to its kind. A breath attack takes a whole round, the dragon cannot fight during it (except with its tail), and it need not itself be resistant to its own breath – a fire dragon can burn itself.
Dragon Gaze: even a dragon that cannot cast spells can bind a victim with its gaze. The victim resists with Will against the dragon's Charisma; if it fails, it freezes for several rounds, and the worse it does, the longer. Meanwhile the dragon cannot attack. If the dragon wants to control the victim permanently, resisting is easier, but on a failure the victim is as if under the Hypnosis spell; this way a dragon can control only one victim at a time.
Magic: the older the dragon, the more powerful a spellcaster; blue, green and black dragons also command nature magic. Dragons do not use prayers. Spells cast on a dragon, and by a dragon on itself, are multiplied by its size. Powerful dragons are said to fly between the True World and the Interface.
