Forest fairies are fragile creatures that live exclusively in deep forests. They are half women, half magical beings. At night they dance among the trees and rejoice in life; by day they sleep as souls inside the trees. They do not need to eat – drawing on the strength of the forest or drinking dew is enough for them. A woman who joins them of her own free will and gives herself to the forest can become a forest fairy. A fairy can have children with a man, a human or even a satyr.

Evil tongues claim that fairies are lustful. Many men have set off into the forest with this belief, and the fairies turned them into stumps for their impudence. In truth fairies are shy and reserved, and their courtship lasts a full thirteen years.

A fairy can become evil and corrupt, for example when she is abducted by swamp hags or when she herself takes the path of evil. Her sisters then reject her and drive her out.

Dance

Fairies love dancing. A man who wishes to deal with them can win their favour if he dances well and manages to keep dancing with the fairies – which requires great endurance.

Combat and magic

Forest fairies command nature magic, above all forest spells. They avoid direct combat and prefer to punish the bold with a spell.
