The forest wurm is a huge brown-green animal; although it is called a wurm, it has little in common with real worms. It can crawl quickly both on the surface and underground. On the surface it moves half buried and leaves a wide furrow behind it, by which it is easy to recognize.

It is carnivorous and feeds mainly on carrion, which it gulps down as it goes; when it is hungry, it also attacks living animals. Sometimes it is used by forest beings such as dryads, who ride on its back and control it with spells.

Combat

In combat the forest wurm thrusts half of its body out of the ground and attacks its prey with its mouth opening. If it is seriously wounded, it withdraws underground and flees.
