Normal sight 15 | Dark vision 10 | Legs 6

The gargantula is a huge black spider covered in sharp bristles, with two clusters of eyes and six legs. It is fairly intelligent and crafty. It lives a nocturnal life and cannot stand daylight, because it weakens it.

It dwells in deep dark caves and comes out to hunt on dark nights; it easily deals even with a deer or a horse. It is constantly driven by hunger: the more it eats, the hungrier it feels, so it hunts everything living in the area until the food runs out and it has to find a new lair. In its lair it stores prey stupefied by poison and devours it gradually.

It does not need mating to reproduce, although mating is possible. Roughly once every ten years it lays eggs, from which new individuals hatch.

Dark webs

The gargantula weaves webs that swallow light and mercilessly trap everything that touches them. A conspicuous gloom therefore reigns around its lair, in which daylight does not bother it, while intruders see poorly in it.

Combat

The gargantula fights with its mandibles, and often a small hit is enough for its poison to take effect. The wounds it inflicts do not heal naturally; they can be healed only by magic.
