The giant rat is not a natural animal; it comes into being through magic or alchemy. In size it equals the largest dogs, but it easily surpasses them in aggressiveness: a change of size almost always changes behaviour too, and a harmless, if indestructible, rodent becomes the terror of the sewers.

Giant rats lose the urge to live in packs – such big animals would soon eat everything in a pack and starve to death – and they band together in a few at most. They can go on breeding if they find an enlarged partner; fortunately they have fewer young and fewer litters than ordinary rats.

Combat

The giant rat retains the reflexes of its smaller relatives and gains enormous strength on top of that, making it a very dangerous opponent, especially in a group. Its bite can cause blood poisoning or another serious infection.
