Cave maggots are unpleasant and very voracious creatures about a meter long. They hatch from eggs laid by the mother, who usually dwells in the deepest part of the cave. As soon as the maggots grow to a certain size, the mother devours them and lays more eggs. She never leaves the lair, often she cannot even, because she is too big. From time to time a group of maggots splits off and looks for a new lair, but most of them die on the way.

When the mother dies, the maggots grow more and more until they start devouring one another; the last survivor pupates and turns into a new mother.

In the dark the maggots find their way by smell, so neither light nor its absence limits them.

Combat

They attack with poisonous mandibles that cause partial paralysis. When they have killed everything they can smell, they start eating; if they are close to the lair, the mother may drive them away and eat the prey herself.
