The manticore is the result of unclean alchemical experiments. It was created by crossing a lion, a bat and a scorpion, and it looks the part: it has a lion's head and paws, bat wings and a scorpion's tail.

Although it is a product of magic, it does not count among magical beings. By nature it is closest to the lion and behaves like a beast of prey, but it is much wilder and more aggressive than other animals and attacks even larger groups of people.

It spends most of its life alone. Only in the mating season, in winter, does it find a partner and a shared lair, where they bring into the world one, exceptionally two young.

Combat

The manticore can fly and likes to swoop down on its prey from above and seize it with its paws. Against stronger opponents it lands on the ground so that it can attack with its maw and tail at the same time. Its tail comes from the scorpion and is therefore highly poisonous.
