Soul hounds are dreadful dogs from the Interface that gather where the souls of the dead travel. As long as a soul keeps to the path, they can neither see it nor harm it. But as soon as it strays from the path and finds itself in places of stronger magic or deep darkness, a hound spots it and attacks. It tears and rends the captured soul until it has drained almost all of its strength and memories; all that remains is a wreck that wanders the wasteland and can no longer find its way on.

A hound gets into our world only rarely. It is usually summoned by a spell, typically to destroy someone's soul. It can come on its own only on a night of strong magic or to a place where many people are sacrificed at once. Here it does not have to chase souls: it is enough to kill someone, tear the soul from their body and rend it to draw strength from it. That is usually enough for it to return to the Interface.
