A sphinx is a creature with the body of a lion and a human head. It arises through a powerful prayer or spell, when a human voluntarily merges with a lion to become an immortal guardian. It is thus partly a magical creature, but still a living one.

Sphinxes guard places where something exceptionally valuable or important is hidden, usually in pairs, sometimes in greater numbers. They let through only those who solve their riddles or know the secret word. They are very wise, because they live immensely long, and usually honorable: they challenge opponents to a duel and never attack treacherously.

Combat

A sphinx is a very fast and experienced fighter. It uses the furious style or unarmed combat, in which it is equal to the masters, it has all the high feats and can face several opponents at once.

Sphinxes are immortal, but they can be killed. A defeated sphinx looks dead, but within one night it heals and rises again. Only separating the human head from the animal body kills it for good.
