A sterenda resembles a huge centipede with mandibles and antennae on its head. It occurs in two forms: the water form lives at the bottom of lakes, where it hunts, and occasionally crawls out onto a muddy bank to lie in wait for prey; the other form lives in damp deep forests. Both are immensely voracious and feed exclusively on meat. They usually hunt smaller game or fish, but they will not turn up their noses at an adventuring party either.

The sterenda is sexless, so every individual can lay eggs in autumn.

Combat

The sterenda fights with its mandibles. It lacks any instinct of self-preservation, and so it fights to exhaustion.

Tremor: it sends out a numbing tremor through its antennae. Whoever fails to resist it falls unconscious; whoever resists is at least shaken, and all their actions are hindered. In water the tremor has a much greater reach than on land.
