Elder vampires are among the most powerful beings existing in the True World. Everything that applies to ordinary vampires applies to them as well, but their power, patience and influence far exceed the abilities of younger undead. Few know of their existence, because after centuries of survival they have learned to act covertly and indirectly.

Long centuries have given them immense experience, knowledge of magic and a perfect understanding of human nature. Elder vampires rarely act openly — instead, they influence kingdoms, orders and entire families through servants and secret societies.

Unlike younger vampires, under certain conditions they can pass between the Interface and the True World at will. This ability is, however, bound to special places and moments when the boundary between the worlds is weakened. Thanks to this they can escape destruction and return even where another undead would perish.

Their bodily shell is extraordinarily resilient, and the destruction of their physical form does not mean final death for them. When defeated, their essence withdraws back into the Interface, from where it returns after a time — often stronger and wiser from its previous defeat.

Elder vampires are usually regarded as the rulers of vampire bloodlines. Among themselves they wage slow, almost invisible wars lasting entire centuries, whose consequences fall upon the world of the living long after the conflict itself began.
