A waaz is a strange fungus that grows in caves, dark forests and swamps. It can move slowly, but mostly it quietly stands in place and waits for prey. When it overpowers a victim, it settles on it, slowly dissolves it and grows through it. Smaller creatures it digests in a few hours, larger ones in as long as several days.
Under favorable conditions, if it stays still for a longer time, a waaz can take root and more grow from its mycelium. It then never breaks free again and in time dries up, but for some time afterwards it still spews spores.
Combat
It catches smaller creatures with its tentacles and strangles them. When it wounds a victim with a tendril, it carries spores into the wound.
Spores
The spores may sprout in a wounded person. The infected person coughs terribly for about a week and then dies in horrible pain and becomes fertile ground for a new waaz.
