Basic Attributes

The talents and shortcomings a character has from birth are described by the system of attributes. Inhabitants of the wilderness will be strong and tough, but not very intelligent and certainly not skilled in oratory. Urban characters, on the other hand, will have a talent for studying books and trading, but thanks to reading and sitting at a desk they will certainly not gain prowess in combat.

Basic attributes are divided by their focus into physical, sensory and mental. In total, we describe a character using nine attributes:

Attribute Level

The degree of an attribute a character has is called the Attribute level. An attribute level can reach any value, but for ordinary characters at the beginning of their career attributes range from 0 to 10; the most experienced exceptionally reach level 20.

A negative level means a smaller or bigger problem, e.g. a character with Intelligence -2 will be dim-witted, one with -5 will barely speak.

Attribute Bonuses

If you have an attribute of at least 2, you gain a premium, or bonus, for it at every even level, i.e. at the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, etc. Bonuses from a higher attribute level are more advantageous, but you must choose them in order, so to take a bonus from the 6th level you must also have one from the 4th and one from the 2nd.

You must choose the bonus immediately after reaching the given level. You cannot change it later.

Temporary attribute change

You do not gain an attribute bonus for a temporary increase, e.g. from the effect of a potion or spell, or from a magic item. Likewise, you do not lose it because of a temporary penalty.
