Intelligence - Int
Intelligence describes a combination of memory, logical reasoning and mathematical talent. It determines whether you succeed in solving puzzles, but also in the use of spells or magical skills.
Intelligence should also shape how you play your character - a smart one solves problems with reason, a dumb one prefers force.
Very low Intelligence reduces the chance of understanding various plans, complex conversations and intricate stories. It also often limits vocabulary and the understanding of various puns. Never try sarcastic or ironic remarks on a darg, you could come to grief.
A character's Intelligence cannot be lower than -9 (if it falls below this limit in the long term, it is the same as if the character died, and from then on the GM plays it).
Intelligence directly invites role-playing. A character with low intelligence will think more simply and act directly; it may show in their speech. Intelligent individuals, on the other hand, will scheme more, look learned, sharp, pompous, etc. However, an intelligent character need not be quick-witted or have common sense; quite the opposite, they may be quite impractical and slow to act.
Animal Intelligence
A lower level of intelligence has no numerical value and is not rolled for (i.e. an animal cannot succeed in a roll on Int). We mark it A1 to A3 (animal) and A0 (none):
| A0 | unintelligent (insects, fungi). Creatures with intelligence A0 are completely immune to fear and mental spells and have no feelings. |
| A1 | unteachable (poultry, reptiles) |
| A2 | teachable (dog, cat, bear) |
| A3 | very teachable (dolphin, monkey) |
