The priest's mission

Your god constantly assesses your deeds, evaluates them and takes a stance toward you. The better your service, the more willing the god is to help you, and vice versa.

Service to the god

Remember that service to a god and faith mean full devotion and determine your path until the end of your life. If you long for power or personal glory, the path of a priest or cleric will not satisfy you. Devote yourself instead to sorcery, fighting or thievery. Only one whose faith is pure can become a true servant of a god.

If you persevere nevertheless, your god will be with you constantly. They will silently watch your actions, evaluate and judge. A simple person may slip on their path, and it is the task of priests to bring them back to it. But if this happens to you, the god may reject you forever and never take you back.

Basic duties of a priest

Your basic duties as a priest include spreading the faith among the people and upholding the principles of your god.

You may be asked to carry out special tasks that fulfill your god's intentions more deeply. These may include protecting holy places, founding new shrines, protecting or acquiring holy items (these include holy symbols, which must not fall into foreign hands), bringing a priest who has strayed from the faith back to the right path, etc.

Poor service

If you serve badly or too little, some prayers may not work at all, the monthly prayer will give you less favour, and at the reckoning you will be struck by punishment instead of favour.

The Chosen

Conversely, if you serve so that you set an example to the whole order, your god will count you among their chosen. Of course you do not know this; you can at most hope or believe, but you are never sure.

What is the advantage of being chosen?

If a chosen one needs it, they can ask for a real miracle and will be heard. It may be an extraordinary bonus to sending a prayer, the invocation of a prayer that the god does not normally provide, or just a plea for rescue.

Technically, you can say that for every great deed you have one miracle in credit (but you never know for sure). A plea for rescue or a miracle „erases“ this deed. If you have more deeds in credit, the god may show you real kindness. They may even save someone from certain death, heal someone mortally ill, or even stop an entire army.

The catch, however, is that the chosen are very humble and resort to such a plea only in the direst need.
