Shock
If a character suffers damage of more than 1 level (reaching Endurance), they may suffer shock.
Success roll
Con + 2d6 / 13
The character remains in shock for as many rounds as the number of points by which they failed the roll.
Notes:
— On a fatal failure, your character is knocked out (they faint instead of taking the penalty).
— Subtract your damage penalty (and fatigue and any other penalties) from the roll
— The shock roll is a game mechanic and will be mentioned in later parts of the rules.
Example
Once Ultor (Endurance 8, Constitution 10) set out alone to hunt a fierce wolf (Endurance 4) that was causing great harm in a nearby village. The wolf leapt at him from behind a rock, and only thanks to his exceptional hearing was Ultor able to cover himself at least a little. But the wolf hit him and dealt him a wound for 8 health points. Because the damage exceeded his Endurance, he must roll for shock. His status also changed from "healthy" to "slightly wounded".
10 Constitution
+6 roll
-2 damage penalty
--------------------------
Total 14
So he overcame the shock (difficulty 13).
Ultor strikes back and wounds the wolf for 5 HP (it is also "slightly wounded" and has a -2 penalty).
The GM rolls for shock for the wolf. To Constitution 5 he adds the roll (a 5) and subtracts 2 for the penalty. The total is 8, which is not enough, and the wolf will be in shock (it failed by 5). Ultor takes advantage of this and finishes the wolf off.
