Targeted attack
(Advanced rule)
Once you master the basic combat rules, you can start playing with targeted attacks and, for example, attack your opponent's leg or head.
The main point of a targeted attack is to hit an uncovered part of the body (see the “Protects” column in the Armor Table) or a sensitive part of the body (see table).
Lightened plate armor (AC 16) protects everywhere except the legs (AC 0).
You must announce a targeted attack before the roll itself (and count the penalties accordingly):
When shooting, you cannot count the size bonus!
| Body part | WA | damage | shock* |
|---|---|---|---|
| torso | - 2 | — | — |
| arm | - 2 | — | — |
| leg | - 2 | — | — |
| head | - 5 | +1 | - 5 |
| between plates | - 10 | — | — |
* Penalty the struck character has to a possible roll for shock / knockout (if hit).
Attack aimed at the head
Face / neck
With a difference of at least 10 you hit the face or neck. Thanks to this, even a small wound can cause shock and possibly bypass the armor (lighter helmets do not cover the whole face), so the opponent does not count his armor (if he has no helmet on his head anyway, this advantage does not apply).
With a difference of at least 20 you hit an eye. If the damage exceeds the creature's size (for humans automatically, for a dragon of Size 10, 10 HP of damage are needed), the eye is damaged and the opponent cannot see with it at least until the end of the fight.
Thinner weapons such as knives, rapiers or arrows avoid the armor completely
Attack on a limb
If damage aimed at an arm or leg reaches the defender's endurance, that limb is crippled. With a crippled arm he cannot fight; on a crippled leg he cannot stand and walks as with Mov 10 lower (if both legs are crippled, he cannot stand or walk at all).
If the damage to a limb exceeds 5x End, the limb is permanently damaged (severed), but the character can survive if it is not an open wound or someone treats him (roll Healing + 2d6 / 10 + 2d6). Saving a severed limb is another matter, though (Healing + 2d6 / 25 + 2d6).
Elbow / knee
On a total success you hit the elbow / knee. A wound to the elbow (knee) of at least Size in health means the whole arm (leg) is out of action. 1 in 6 (chance 1d6 / 6) elbow / knee wounds cause permanent paralysis of the limb.
Attack on the torso
Groin
A total hit means a hit to the groin. Even 1 HP means a shock roll with a penalty of -10. The groin is covered by every armor that protects the chest
Sensitive organ
A total hit by at least 20 means hitting a sensitive organ. The opponent immediately rolls for pass out with a -10 penalty. Fatal failure means instant death.
Targeted shooting - large targets
When shooting at a smaller part of the body you cannot add the size bonus (but the penalty, yes!); only the penalty for the targeted attack is reduced.
In disputed cases the GM decides, either cancelling the size bonus or reducing it appropriately.
Inhuman enemies
The described targeted attacks apply against human-like opponents. If you meet something else, it need not always hold that it has a sensitive spot on the head, that it can be stunned, that its arm can be put out of action and so on. The GM always has the final word.
